Puebla launches Chiles en Nogada season to boost tourism and local economy

The government of Puebla has officially launched the seasonal celebration of Chiles en Nogada, a traditional dish intended to promote regional tourism and support local agriculture. The initiative, led by Governor Alejandro Armenta Mier, aims to showcase Puebla's culinary heritage through various gastronomic venues, including a presence at El Palacio de Hierro in Mexico City.

Economic projections suggest the season could generate over 2 billion pesos in benefits for local communities, with an estimated sale of more than 4.5 million servings. The campaign directly impacts more than 28,000 local agricultural producers who supply essential ingredients such as Castilla walnuts, panochera apples, and pomegranate.

To ensure economic stability, the Puebla Secretary of Agriculture and Rural Development is coordinating with the National Chamber of the Restaurant and Food Industry (CANIRAC) to establish fair prices for traditional ingredients. The dish itself remains a significant cultural symbol, historically linked to the colors of the Army of the Three Guarantees.
