Mexico celebrates traditional beverages through festivals and regional tourism

Ecatepec is preparing a festival to celebrate pulque, a traditional fermented beverage made from agave sap, on September 26. Held at the José María Morelos y Pavón Regional Cultural Center, the event will feature producers from the State of Mexico and Hidalgo, offering tastings of natural pulque and 'curados'—varieties mixed with fruits, seeds, and ingredients like strawberry, mango, and even mazapán. The festival will include workshops and lectures on the production of pulque and mezcal, alongside live music and traditional food.

In celebration of Mexico's patriotic month, various 'Pueblos Mágicos' are also highlighting regional beverage traditions. In Tequila, Jalisco, visitors can tour agave fields and artisanal distilleries to learn about tequila production. In Oaxaca, routes through Mitla and Hierve el Agua offer insights into traditional mezcal distillation. Other notable destinations for cultural and beverage-focused tourism include Tecate in Baja California, known for its brewing traditions, and Zacatlán de las Manzanas in Puebla.
