Mexico celebrates UNESCO gastronomy anniversary and Mariachi festival

The Conservatorio de la Cultura Gastronómica has released a commemorative book, ‘Cocina Mexicana, XV años de Patrimonio Cultural de la Humanidad’, to mark 15 years since UNESCO designated Mexican gastronomy as part of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The publication features literary and photographic content exploring the social, economic, and cultural impacts of this designation, focusing on traditional ingredients such as chili, corn, and beans.

In conjunction with these cultural celebrations, Jalisco will host the 33rd International Mariachi and Charrería Meeting from August 26 to September 6, 2026. The festival features performers from Mexico, the United States, Colombia, France, Bolivia, Argentina, Chile, Peru, Ecuador, and Cuba. Events including concerts and equestrian displays will take place across various locations in the state, including Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta.
