Mexico central bank interest rates projected to remain stable through 2027
According to a recent Citi survey, the majority of analysts expect the Bank of Mexico (Banxico) to maintain current interest rates throughout the remainder of 2026 and the entirety of 2027. Out of 36 specialists surveyed, 25 believe the cost of money will remain at existing levels, reflecting a cautious stance amid national currency volatility and international market shifts.
While most experts predict stability, 11 specialists anticipate potential changes. Within that group, eight suggest adjustments might not occur until the first half of 2027, while two foresee movements before the end of this year. This outlook comes as the interest rate differential between Mexico and the United States reaches historic lows, compounded by expectations of further rate increases from the U.S. Federal Reserve.
Separately, recent financial regulation reports indicate a shift toward facilitating credit access and account management in Mexico. New measures allow for the reuse of existing files, electronic signatures, and simplified verification for certain commercial credits under 4 million UDIs. However, analysts note that while these changes aim to reduce paperwork for small businesses, the central bank is also gaining expanded tools and discretion regarding securities auctions.
