Mexico President Claudia Sheinbaum signs decree to expand government transparency
President Claudia Sheinbaum signed a decree that broadens the transparency obligations of the Mexican federal government. The measure requires all federal agencies to publish their public‑contract information on a monthly basis instead of quarterly and obliges the state oil company Pemex and the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) to disclose detailed data on their subsidiaries, finances and corporate governance. It also expands the public reporting of audits and audit follow‑ups, and limits the ability of officials to withhold information to the narrow cases of public interest or national security defined by the Constitution. The decree strengthens the National Transparency Platform (PNT) with new tools and a schedule for monthly updates, and it removes discretionary power from individual secretaries or directors to decide what can be made public. The government said the changes will be incorporated into a forthcoming reform of the General Transparency Law, aiming for “total transparency” of government activities and resource use.
