Mexico City aide murder suspect detained in Morelos, advancing investigation

Jovany “N”, alias “La Muñeca”, was captured in Yautepec, Morelos, and is identified by authorities as a presumed member of the criminal group linked to the May 20 2025 attack that killed Ximena Guzmán and José Muñoz, close collaborators of Mexico City head Clara Brugada. The operation, coordinated by the Mexico City Attorney General’s Office, the Federal Attorney General’s Office and the National Intelligence Center, brings the total number of arrests related to the case to 19.

The double homicide occurred in broad daylight on a major thoroughfare in Mexico City while President‑elect Claudia Sheinbaum was holding a morning briefing. Investigators say the perpetrators may belong to a narco‑small‑scale trafficking cell operating in the capital region, but they are still seeking the intellectual authors of the attack.
