Mexico City implements strategy to combat property dispossession

In Mexico City, authorities have implemented a new strategy to combat property dispossession, resulting in the recovery of eight properties and 44 arrests within the first 12 days of operation. To support victims, the government is launching the Ponciano Arriaga Social Defense Office in the Zócalo, which will provide 100 specialized lawyers offering free legal assistance in civil, criminal, and family law starting August 24.

In Veracruz, the state government is investigating potential irregularities within the notary system to prevent real estate fraud. Officials are reviewing approximately 200 active notary offices to ensure legal certainty and address allegations of a “Real Estate Cartel” involving the falsification of documents and identity theft. Additionally, reports indicate that the state prosecutor's office previously withheld information regarding 20 clandestine graves and 69 exhumed bodies found between 2009 and 2014.

Other regional security updates include the arrest of four investigators from the State of Mexico Prosecutor's Office for alleged involvement in extortion and kidnapping, and various operations in Nayarit and Saltillo involving narcotics seizures and public order enforcement.
