Mexico City and business leaders launch initiatives to strengthen care policies
In Mexico City, government and business leaders are advancing new frameworks to address caregiving responsibilities and their socio-economic impacts. The Business Coordinating Council (CCE) Network for Early Childhood held its third summit under the theme “Caring is sustainable business.” Led by Laura Tamayo Laris, Sindy González, and Paloma Infestas, the summit brought together representatives from the IDB, ECLAC, and the Global Care Alliance to discuss how corporate responsibility in childcare and family support can drive long-term productivity and competitiveness.
Simultaneously, Mexico City Mayor Clara Brugada Molina announced the creation of the city’s first Council of Caregivers. This participatory body will include both caregivers and those receiving care to strengthen public policies. As part of this initiative, the city inaugurated the Angela Davis House of the 3Rs of Care. This center aims to implement a model based on recognizing the value of domestic work, reducing the physical burden of daily tasks, and redistributing care responsibilities more equitably among men, women, and the state.
