Mexico City and Cancun Host Guelaguetza 2026 Cultural Festival
The iconic Oaxacan celebration Guelaguetza will be presented in two Mexican cities in July 2026. In Mexico City, the event will take place on Saturday 11 July at Plaza 23 de Mayo in the historic centre, offering free admission and featuring traditional music, dance and colorful costumes from the eight regions of Oaxaca.
In Cancun, the festival runs from 23 to 26 July, organized by the municipal cultural institute and showcasing more than 115 Oaxacan artists. Highlights include a opening performance at the Teatro de la Ciudad, a street parade (calenda) through Yaxchilán Avenue, and a series of concerts presenting sones, jarabes and regional dances from communities such as Tututepec, Pochutla, Juquila and others. Both events aim to promote Oaxacan heritage and foster cultural exchange across Mexico.
