Mexico City authorities seize 13 tons of illegal tobacco
Mexican federal and local authorities seized approximately 13 tons of illegal tobacco, equivalent to 650,000 cigarette packs, during six raids in the Venustiano Carranza and Cuauhtémoc boroughs of Mexico City.
Federal Security Secretary Omar García Harfuch stated the operation resulted from investigations by the Secretariat of the Navy, Customs, and the Mexico City Security Secretariat. The raids targeted properties identified through surveillance as hubs for the storage and distribution of illegal tobacco.
In addition to the tobacco, officials discovered various doses of drugs, allegedly counterfeit merchandise, and cartridges of different calibers. The seized items and properties have been placed under the custody of the Public Ministry as investigations continue to determine legal responsibilities.
