Mexico City begins demolition and aid after Minas de Cristo explosion

Authorities in Mexico City have initiated emergency response measures following an explosion in the Minas de Cristo neighborhood of the Álvaro Obregón borough, which resulted in two deaths.

Mexico City Mayor Clara Brugada Molina announced that the government is providing monthly rental assistance through the Institute of Housing (Invi) to affected families. This support will continue until residents can secure safe housing, as the damaged buildings are slated for demolition. Health Secretary Nadine Gasman Zylbermann reported that 25 people were initially treated, with seven remaining hospitalized, including six in serious condition.

Álvaro Obregón Mayor Javier López Casarín confirmed that demolition work is scheduled to begin on the most severely impacted structures. Residents were permitted to enter certain properties under civil protection supervision to retrieve essential documents and belongings before the demolition process proceeds.
