Mexico City Cathedral hosts pilgrimage of 30 Marian devotions

On August 22, 2026, the Metropolitan Cathedral in Mexico City hosted the Pilgrimage of Marian Devotions. Approximately 30 different advocations of the Virgin Mary, including Our Lady of Guadalupe, the Virgin of Carmen, and the Virgin de la Bala, arrived from various points within the Archdiocese of Mexico.

The arrival of these images was marked by the “Toque de andas,” a special bell ringing used to welcome pilgrims. Each representation brought unique traditions and community histories to the cathedral.

This event coincides with the liturgical feast of Mary Queen, a solemnity established by Pope Pius XII in 1954 through the encyclical Ad Caeli Reginam. The feast celebrates the Virgin Mary as Queen of Heaven and Earth, emphasizing her role in providing maternal aid, spiritual healing, and peace to believers.
