Mexico City Congress awaits structural report for Edificio Juárez

The Mexico City Congress is awaiting a technical structural report to determine when employees can safely return to the Edificio Juárez, which remains closed following an incident on October 1.

Olivia Garza de los Santos, President of the Congress Board of Directors, visited the building on Monday to monitor an inspection conducted by the Institute for Construction Safety of Mexico City (ISC). This follows a preliminary assessment by the Secretariat for Integral Risk Management and Civil Protection (SGIRPC), which found no apparent damage to the main structural system, such as concrete columns or beams near the incident site.

The primary area affected is the transformer room, where masonry damage was noted. While the initial findings are favorable, officials emphasized that the building will remain closed until a formal structural report provides technical certainty regarding the safety of the premises, which houses offices for 17 congressional commissions.
