Mexico City Congress calls for psychological first aid in emergencies

The Mexico City Congress has issued a call to local authorities to strengthen the implementation of psychological first aid during emergencies. A legislative agreement, proposed by Deputy Luisa Fernanda Ledesma Alpízar of the Movimiento Ciudadano party, directs the Secretariat of Public Health and the Secretariat of Integral Risk Management and Civil Protection, along with the city's 16 boroughs, to incorporate these services into initial emergency responses.

Ledesma Alpízar emphasized that while physical injuries are often the primary focus during accidents, fires, floods, earthquakes, or acts of violence, these events can also cause significant, invisible emotional damage. The initiative aims to provide practical and respectful human support to help victims express emotions, regain calm, and receive clear information to prevent further psychological harm.
