Mexico City Congress pushes for school road safety workshops

The Mexico City Congress has requested the Secretariat of Mobility (SEMOVI) to collaborate with the Federal Educational Authority to implement road safety and mobility workshops in the capital's schools. Approved on October 17, the initiative aims to provide students with practical knowledge to protect themselves while commuting.

The proposal is part of the Road Safety Strategy for the 2026-2030 period. This strategy includes interventions at 66 safe crossings near 789 public basic education campuses across 11 boroughs, affecting an estimated population of 41,000 children.

Presented by Deputy Israel Moreno Rivera, the initiative focuses on teaching students how to identify risks when crossing avenues, recognize traffic signs, use pedestrian crossings correctly, and respect other road users. The goal is to complement physical infrastructure with education to prevent accidents during commutes between home and school.
