Mexico City Congress rejects proposal to assist searching mothers

In Mexico City, a proposal to provide immediate attention to searching mothers holding a protest in front of the Fiscalía General de la República (FGR) was rejected by the local Congress. Tania Larios, coordinator of the PRI Parliamentary Group, presented a Point of Agreement to establish an inter-institutional committee to address the demands of these families and follow up on their cases.

The proposal received support from the PAN and Movimiento Ciudadano parties, but failed to pass due to votes against it by Morena and the Partido del Trabajo (PT). Proponents of the measure argued that the rejection ignores the rights of families seeking missing loved ones and fails to provide an institutional route to address the ongoing crisis of disappearances.
