Mexico City crowds gather for Saint Jude Thaddeus devotion
Thousands of devotees gathered at the Temple of San Hipólito and San Casiano in Mexico City to honor Saint Jude Thaddeus, known as the patron saint of lost causes. The massive influx of worshippers, many of whom were young people carrying candles and flowers, began on the night of Tuesday, October 27, and continued through Wednesday, October 28.
The large crowds led to moments of tension and safety concerns. Reports indicated that some individuals were injured and elderly people fell while attempting to enter the temple amidst the heavy congestion. There were also reports of minors becoming lost in the crowd.
In response to the overcrowding and potential risks, local security forces, Civil Protection personnel, and church authorities coordinated to close access to the temple during the night to prevent further incidents. Local authorities noted the significant scale of the gathering, which has seen increasing participation in recent years.
