Mexico City cultural institutions discuss art access for homeless populations

Discussions held at the Centro Cultural Universitario Tlatelolco addressed the inclusion of people experiencing homelessness in cultural spaces and the criteria for artistic recognition. Representatives from the magazine Mi Valedor, the CCUT, Museo Jumex, and Museo Kaluz argued that artistic production should not be contingent upon academic titles.

The CCUT’s Espacio Excéntrico program aims to provide exhibition opportunities for collectives that face historical barriers to entering cultural circuits, including people experiencing homelessness, sex workers, and members of the LGBTQ+ community. Participants noted that physical and social barriers, such as location and mobility, continue to hinder access to contemporary art.
