Mexico City expands programs for women's economic autonomy

In Mexico City, initiatives aimed at fostering economic and personal autonomy for women are expanding through local government programs. The Cuauhtémoc Borough is utilizing its “Las Amazonas” Women's Training Center to provide psychological, legal, and social support, alongside spaces for professional development and reflection. As part of these efforts, women who have experienced gender violence participated in a virtual meeting with anthropologist and feminist researcher Marcela Lagarde y de los Ríos to discuss financial independence and support networks.

Simultaneously, the Mexico City Secretariat for Women announced that 1,437 women have successfully completed the first generation of its Economic Autonomy Program. This intensive two-month training covered digital marketing, leadership, administration, and personal finance. The program's certifications are officially recognized by Ceneval, providing graduates with technical validity to pursue entrepreneurship or formal employment. Officials stated that the program is intended to become a permanent fixture to ensure long-term social impact.
