Mexico City extends Airbnb host registration deadline to 2026

The Mexico City government has extended the deadline for hosts using Airbnb and similar short-term rental platforms to register their properties. The new deadline is set for December 2026.

This extension follows a high volume of registration requests and aims to address the impact of short-term rentals on the local housing market. The regulation seeks to manage the growth of temporary accommodations, which authorities link to rising housing prices and decreased availability for conventional residents.

Under the new rules, hosts managing more than three properties will be registered as commercial establishments. The registration process is intended to allow authorities to enforce occupancy limits, such as the 50% night-occupancy cap, which has been difficult to implement due to a lack of centralized data.
