Mexico and Guatemala face widespread road closures due to social protests

Multiple social protests and road closures are impacting transportation in Mexico and Guatemala.

In the State of Mexico, residents in Tenango del Valle and surrounding communities, including San Miguel Balderas and San Francisco Putla, have maintained roadblocks for several days. Their demands include the rehabilitation of approximately 10 kilometers of roads, the construction of a pedestrian bridge, and the completion of educational infrastructure. Additionally, residents in Tenancingo have blocked the Tenancingo-Tenango federal highway to demand transparency regarding the management of 2 million pesos intended for water services. In Ixtlahuaca, inhabitants of Santo Domingo de Guzmán have blocked the Atlacomulco-Toluca highway to demand the incorporation of potable water services by SEGIAGUA.

In Mexico City, significant social mobilizations have reduced vehicular flow by an estimated 35%, with major disruptions reported in the Cuauhtémoc, Coyoacán, Tlalpan, and Iztapalapa boroughs. These include protests near the Supreme Court of Justice and various transit corridors.

In Guatemala, demonstrators have blocked roads near the La Aurora and Mundo Maya airports. These protests are driven by rising fuel prices and dissatisfaction with the management of the Ministry of Communications, Infrastructure, and Housing.
