Mexico City firefighter arrested after fatal truck accident kills child
A firefighter has been detained in Mexico City following a fatal traffic accident involving an 8-year-old boy in the Magdalena Contreras borough. The incident occurred at the intersection of Ciruelos and Jacarandas streets in the Tierra Colorada neighborhood.
According to reports from the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC), the driver of a Heroico Cuerpo de Bomberos truck lost control of the vehicle while navigating a steep incline. The truck reportedly struck the child before colliding with a parked RAM pickup truck. Paramedics from the Escuadrón de Rescate y Urgencias Médicas (ERUM) arrived at the scene and confirmed the child had died from crushing injuries.
The 37-year-old driver was arrested at the scene and transported to the Public Ministry alongside the vehicle. Preliminary reports suggest the accident may have been caused by a brake failure on the fire truck. The Mexico City Attorney General's Office is investigating to establish legal responsibilities.
