Mexico City hosts 4th World Sports Tourism Congress

Mexico City is hosting the 4th World Sports Tourism Congress, marking the first time the event has been held in the Americas. Organized by ONU Turismo, the congress is taking place at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez from September 7 to 9, bringing together 520 representatives from 30 countries, including diplomats, ministers, and industry experts.

Federal Tourism Secretary Josefina Rodríguez Zamora noted that sports tourism accounts for approximately 10% of Mexico's tourism spending and is growing at an annual rate of 28%. The country expects to host 295 sporting events across its 32 states by the end of 2026, which are projected to generate over 60,000 room-nights.

Various Mexican states, including Guanajuato, Tamaulipas, and San Luis Potosí, are utilizing the forum to promote their local infrastructure and capacity to host international competitions. The congress aims to analyze how major sporting events can drive long-term economic benefits, investment, and community development.
