Mexico City implements 15-minute city model via Utopías

Mexico City is implementing a proximity urbanism strategy through the creation of 'Utopías,' public spaces designed to bring essential services, culture, sports, and care within a 15-minute radius of residents. During the U20 summit in New York, Head of Government Clara Brugada Molina stated that the initiative aims to reduce territorial and social inequality by increasing investment in historically underserved areas.

The Utopías model integrates four urbanism components: feminist and care-based urbanism, sustainable urbanism, proximity urbanism, and social urbanism. These spaces provide free services to transform public areas into hubs for community development.

As part of this cultural expansion, the city's Secretariat of Culture has launched the 'Leer en UTOPÍA' program. This initiative offers free literary encounters and creative writing workshops with a gender perspective, featuring various authors and community reading sessions across different locations in the capital.
