Mexico City Independent Film Festival begins ninth edition

The ninth edition of the Mexico City Independent Film Festival has commenced, running until the sixth of the month. Organized by Emiliano Escoto, the festival aims to foster reflection on cinema and its relationship with contemporary social realities.

The event features a diverse selection, including the opening screening of the 1979 cult comedy ‘Llámame Mike’ by Alfredo Gurrola. The program includes a ‘Mexican Classic Cinema Revisited’ section and a competition featuring 32 works across categories such as Short Film, Animated Short, New Visions, and Indigenous Peoples.

Notable entries in the competition include ‘At Night’ by Pooyan Afzali, ‘Breve mascarada’ by Julio Bracho, and ‘Tamayo’ by Moisés Anaya and Åsa Welander. The festival is scheduled to conclude with a screening of ‘Los amantes se despiden con la mirada’ by Rigoberto Perezcano.
