Mexico City judge orders FGR to accept complaints from 55 searching families
A Mexico City judge has issued a provisional suspension ordering the Fiscalía General de la República (FGR) to immediately accept formal complaints from 55 mothers and families searching for missing persons. The ruling follows a protest camp established by activists outside the prosecutor's headquarters after the Public Ministry refused to assist them on September 9.
The injunction, promoted by the organization Abogados Convencionalistas de México, mandates that the Special Prosecutor for the Investigation of Crimes of Enforced Disappearance take necessary precautions and report on compliance within 48 hours. The decision affects several collectives, including Buscando Cuerpos, Regreso a Casa Veracruz, Guerreras Buscadoras Jalisco, and Resilientes MX, who have been protesting bureaucratic obstacles to opening investigation files.
A hearing to determine if the suspension will become permanent is scheduled for September 29, with a constitutional hearing on the merits of the injunction set for October 16. This legal development occurs amid a national humanitarian crisis in Mexico, where official records indicate more than 130,000 missing persons.
