Mexico City launches cinema program for schools

The 'Vamos a la Cineteca' pedagogical strategy will bring cinema to basic education schools in Mexico City starting September 21. The initiative is driven by the Federal Educational Authority in Mexico City (AEFCM) in collaboration with the National Cinematheque Trust.

Under the program, three weekly screenings will be held at the Xoco, Cineteca Nacional de las Artes, and Chapultepec locations. According to Secretary of Public Education Mario Delgado Carrillo, the program aims to use film as a tool to strengthen the integral formation of children and adolescents by fostering imagination, sensitivity, critical thinking, and emotional expression.

The initiative aligns with the principles of the New Mexican School (NEM), seeking to incorporate cultural and artistic experiences into the curriculum to help students understand their environment and improve social coexistence.
