Mexico City mayor Clara Brugada launches Otoch housing upgrades and anti-eviction actions

Mexico City’s head of government, Clara Brugada Molina, oversaw the delivery of Otoch program improvements at the Cuitláhuac housing complex in Iztapalapa. Over the past two years the city has allocated 200 million pesos to upgrade 4,388 housing units across the capital, with the Cuitláhuac project benefiting roughly 3,000 residents through painting of 68 buildings, refurbishment of sports areas, upgraded lighting, and common‑area repairs. Remote links were also used to coordinate work in three additional Iztapalapa complexes.

The Otoch program extends beyond cosmetic work, covering drainage, electrical and gas infrastructure, cisterns, sidewalks, green spaces, and desazolve services. To improve safety, the city distributed more than 30,000 gas‑leak detectors and 14,000 civil‑protection backpacks to residents. Brugada highlighted the anti‑eviction cabinet created by her administration, recent legal reforms that raise penalties for illegal evictions to up to 23 years, and ongoing efforts to return seized properties to owners.
