Mexico City Metro celebrates 57th anniversary with commemorative lottery ticket
The Mexico City Metro (STC Metro) is celebrating its 57th anniversary. To mark the occasion, the Lotería Nacional, in coordination with the Mexico City government, has unveiled a commemorative ticket for the Special Zodiac Draw No. 1762. The ticket, which features an NM22 model train, is intended to honor the system's history and its workforce. The draw is scheduled for September 27, featuring a grand prize of 11 million pesos.
Officials, including Mexico City Mayor Clara Brugada Molina and Metro Director Adrián Rubalcava, highlighted the system's role as a vital mobility pillar and a cultural space. Brugada noted that the Metro transports approximately four million people daily and is operated by 13,000 workers. She also mentioned significant government investment aimed at improving facilities and maintaining low fare costs.
While the system celebrates its longevity and cultural impact—including its role in scientific dissemination through spaces like the Science Tunnel—reports indicate that recent administrations have allocated substantial budgets to the network. Since 2019, investments have increased significantly, with the 2026 budget allocated at 25,000 million pesos, as part of ongoing modernization and rehabilitation efforts.
