Mexico City Metro Line 3 set for renovation without station closures

City officials announced a comprehensive renovation of Metro Line 3, one of the busiest routes in Mexico City, linking Indios Verdes to Universidad. The project, part of a broader modernization effort that previously upgraded Lines 1 and 2, will be funded with roughly 40 billion pesos and will introduce 45 new trains, replace tracks, upgrade electrical and signaling systems, and refurbish all 21 stations.

Authorities stressed that no stations will close and service will continue throughout the year. Work will be staged during night hours, weekends and low‑traffic periods, with the most extensive track interventions slated to begin in 2027 after a licensing process. The fare will remain at five pesos, and the plan aims to improve safety, reduce travel times and increase overall efficiency for the millions of daily riders.
