Mexico City Metro mural sets Guinness World Record
The three-dimensional artwork titled ‘Apoteosis’ has officially been recognized by Guinness World Records as the largest holographic mural in the world. The piece is located at the Auditorio station on Line 7 of the Mexico City Metro (STC).
Created by Federico Kampf, the mural covers 750 square meters and utilizes a special holographic technique that allows viewers to see different images depending on their viewing angle. The work consists of 200 panels and 12,000 strips that were polished and painted on both sides. The project was completed in 34 days, averaging approximately 22 square meters of painting per day.
The mural’s narrative depicts the transformation of humanity into the divine, symbolizing an encounter between Mexican and Western traditions through figures such as Quetzalcóatl, Xochipilli, Apollo, and Dionysus. This marks the first Guinness World Record achieved by the STC in its 57-year history.
