Mexico City Metro receives full federal funding for Line 12 extension and Line A overhaul
Clara Brugada Molina, head of government of Mexico City, announced that the federal government will fully finance two major Metro projects. The extension of Line 12 will add 4.6 km of underground track from Mixcoac to Observatorio, creating four new stations (Mixcoac, Valentín Campa, Álvaro Obregón and Observatorio) and linking with Lines 1, 9 and the Inter‑urban Train “El Insurgente”. At the same time, Line A will undergo a comprehensive renovation to eliminate recurrent flooding, including track re‑leveling, structural reinforcement and modernisation of maintenance facilities.
The funding was secured after Brugada’s dialogue with President Claudia Sheinbaum, who prioritised the projects. In related transport initiatives, the C5 Metropolitano corridor between Mexico City and the State of Mexico is being prepared, and three new Cablebús lines are slated for completion by mid‑2028.
