Mexico City Metro Restores Line 2 Service as World Cup Approaches

Mexico City’s Metro Line 2 resumed operations after interruptions caused by CNTE protests and ongoing station renovations. The service, which runs from Tasqueña to Cuatro Caminos, was restored just days before the inauguration of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

STC Metro director Adrián Rubalcava said that while the line is back in operation, stations such as Chabacano, Zócalo/Tenochtitlan and Portal remain closed for boarding and alighting pending final works. Ongoing repairs at stations like Hidalgo, Bellas Artes and Allende include finishing murals, accessibility signage and lighting. Police barriers were also installed to block protesters from reaching the World Cup stadium area.

The reopening aims to reduce commuter chaos ahead of the expected influx of tourists for the World Cup, though commuters are advised to watch for further notifications about station access.
