Mexico City Metrobús implements accessibility upgrades amid shifting passenger demand

Mexico City's Metrobús system is undergoing accessibility upgrades to assist passengers with visual impairments. The maintenance program involves rehabilitating approximately 1,200 linear meters of tactile paving and replacing 114 manhole covers across Lines 1, 2, and 3. To minimize disruption to daily commuters, work is being conducted primarily during weekends.

Simultaneously, recent data from INEGI indicates a shift in urban mobility patterns within the Mexico City Metropolitan Area. In July 2026, Metrobús passenger numbers fell by 6.7% compared to the previous year. In contrast, other electric transport systems saw significant growth, with the Trolebús increasing by 20.9%, the Tren Ligero by 10.3%, and the Cablebús by 5.2%.
