Mexico City opens Utopía Acatitla community center in Iztapalapa

Mexico City’s government, led by mayor Clara Brugada Molina, inaugurated the Utopía Acatitla complex in the Iztapalapa borough. The 16,000‑square‑metre facility was built with an investment of 119 million pesos and is the fifth “Utopía” project of the administration.

The center offers a semi‑olympic pool, pump‑track, climbing wall, parkour area, multi‑use sports courts, a night‑time fluorescent garden and cultural workshops in music, dance and theatre. Free health services include general medicine, dentistry, laboratory tests, mammography, gynecology, a psychology‑based emotional‑care centre and an addiction‑prevention hub. A public‑care system provides meals, laundry, and support for children, seniors and people with disabilities. Operating hours have been extended to 23:00 to accommodate workers living in the eastern periphery. The project is presented as a territorial‑justice initiative aimed at reducing historic inequality by delivering high‑quality public infrastructure to historically underserved neighborhoods.
