Mexico City police arrest woman for suspected counterfeiting

A 34-year-old woman was arrested in the Cuauhtémoc borough of Mexico City after allegedly attempting to pay for goods with counterfeit currency. The arrest occurred in the Centro neighborhood following a report from a business owner who noticed the 500-peso bills lacked proper security features.

During a search by the Mexico City Citizen Security Secretariat (SSC), authorities seized 81 suspected counterfeit 500-peso bills, totaling 40,500 pesos. In addition to the currency, officers recovered various items potentially used for forgery, including 11 sheets printed with 100-dollar bill images, 13 passports, 6 voter ID cards, 3 circulation cards, and 10 plastic cards bearing institutional logos.

Police also confiscated 20 embossed sheets of Mexico City birth certificates and 16 stamps with different logos. The suspect and the seized materials have been placed at the disposal of ministerial authorities to determine the full scope of the illegal activities and the origin of the materials.
