Mexico City police assist in emergency childbirth and reunite Down syndrome child with mother

On July 31, 2026, officers of the Secretaría de Seguridad Ciudadana (SSC) in Mexico City helped a 38‑year‑old woman in advanced labor give birth inside a patrol car in the Álvaro Obregón borough after she reported imminent delivery. A police officer positioned the woman in the back seat, applied first‑aid knowledge, and the newborn was delivered successfully. Paramedics arrived, and both mother and baby were later taken to a hospital in stable condition.

In a separate incident in the Benito Juárez borough, SSC officers from the Policía Bancaria e Industrial responded to a 51‑year‑old woman's request to locate her son with Down syndrome who had wandered off. Police found the child disoriented near Calle 10 and Avenida Revolución, assessed his health, and escorted him back to his home, where he was reunited with his mother, who expressed gratitude.
