Mexico City prepares monumental Catrina sculpture for Day of the Dead
Mexico City is attempting to break the record for the world's tallest Catrina sculpture during its Day of the Dead festivities. The 32-meter monument, which will be displayed in the Zócalo from October 29 to November 2, aims to surpass the current record of 28 meters held by Puerto Vallarta.
Created by the Taller de Arte Xibalbá, the sculpture is described as being “50% art and 50% engineering.” The design features luminous bones that function as light screens, a dress inspired by Mexican textile art, and LED-embroidered details to honor José Guadalupe Posada. The project involves a multidisciplinary team of architects, engineers, and sculptors to manage the structural requirements of the massive installation.
