Mexico City reinforces Metro pyrotechnics surveillance
Mexico City Mayor Clara Brugada has announced the reinforcement of the ‘Cero Pirotecnia’ (Zero Pyrotechnics) operation within the Mexico City Metro system to prevent the transport and sale of explosive materials. The initiative comes ahead of national holiday celebrations.
The Banking and Industrial Police (PBI) has already seized at least 33 kilograms of pyrotechnic products during the first week of the operation. Brugada urged both local authorities and citizens to refrain from using fireworks to avoid tragedies, citing a recent incident in Temascalcingo that resulted in 11 deaths and over 60 injuries.
Security inspections and patrols will continue through September 16 at seven priority stations: Candelaria, La Merced, Pino Suárez, Balderas, Hidalgo, Indios Verdes, Jamaica, and various connection points across Lines 1, 2, 3, 4, and 9.
