Mexico City schools to close September 15-16 for holidays

The Secretariat of Public Education (SEP) has confirmed that basic education schools in Mexico City will observe a holiday period on September 15 and 16, 2026. This suspension of classes applies to all public and private institutions incorporated into the national educational system within the capital.

While September 16 is an official national holiday commemorating Mexican Independence, local educational authorities decided to include September 15 as a non-working day to facilitate family participation in patriotic celebrations. Students and staff are expected to return to regular activities on Thursday, September 17.
