Mexico's Ricardo Monreal announces legislative calendar and security reviews

Ricardo Monreal, coordinator of the Morena group in the Chamber of Deputies, has announced a legislative calendar for the analysis of the presidential report (Glosa) and upcoming ministerial hearings. The process is scheduled to begin on September 8, covering domestic policy, followed by foreign policy on September 9, and economic and social policies later in the month.

As part of these preparations, Monreal met with Omar García Harfuch, the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, to review the national public security agenda and coordinate his upcoming appearance before the Chamber. Monreal praised Harfuch as one of President Claudia Sheinbaum’s most effective and institutional cabinet members.

Discussions regarding security have also highlighted the complexities of Harfuch’s role. While some political commentary emphasizes his coordination with international agencies and his efforts against organized crime, other perspectives suggest challenges regarding internal government coordination and the shifting of security policies from the previous administration.
