Mexico City security unit detains car dealer extortion suspect

Security elements of the Blindar BJ360° program arrested a 43‑year‑old man identified as Luis Enrique N. after he attempted to extort a car agency in the Del Valle neighborhood of Benito Juárez, Mexico City. Posing as a supervisor of the Secretaría del Trabajo y Previsión Social, he first demanded 15,000 pesos and later, using a purported government credential, demanded an additional 100,000 pesos, totaling 115,000 pesos. The agency’s manager verified the credentials as fake and called Blindar, which intercepted the suspect as he tried to flee. He was taken to the Specialized Extortion Unit of the capital’s prosecutor’s office for processing. City mayor Luis Mendoza urged businesses to verify the identity of any officials who request payments and to report extortion attempts immediately.

The incident underscores ongoing efforts by local authorities to combat fraud and protect commercial establishments in Mexico City.
