Mexico City teachers' union CNTE blocks Paseo de la Reforma during World Cup match

The Coordinadora Nacional de Trabajadores de la Educación (CNTE) escalated protests in Mexico City by blocking key points on Paseo de la Reforma and advancing a march along Calzada de Tlalpan ahead of the Colombia‑Uzbekistan World Cup match at Estadio Ciudad de México. The shutdown halted traffic in both directions, forced the closure of several Metro Line 2 stations and the light‑rail, and disrupted the Metrobús Line 1 service.

CNTE demands the repeal of the 2007 ISSSTE law and the 2019 education reform, a return to a state‑run pension system, and a 100 % salary increase for teachers. Protesters also reported alleged repression, citing seized metal tubes, mazos and cohetones, and accusations of police harassment. President Claudia Sheinbaum questioned the legitimacy of the most radical factions and said negotiations are handled by the interior and education secretaries, not directly with the union.
