Mexico City to host Gran Elotiza Nacional at the Zócalo

The Zócalo in Mexico City will host the ‘Gran Elotiza Nacional’ on September 29, 2026, to celebrate National Corn Day. The event, organized as part of the festivities for the country’s national corn holiday, aims to honor the importance of corn in Mexican identity, culture, and nutrition.

Scheduled from 11:00 to 19:00, the free public event will feature a variety of traditional corn-based foods, including elotes, esquites, sopes, quesadillas, tlacoyos, gorditas, tamales, and atole. Beyond gastronomy, the celebration will include workshops, conferences, games, and cultural activities. One dedicated space will highlight the various names for corn in indigenous Mexican languages to showcase the food's cultural diversity, and an interactive mural will be available for attendees.
