Mexico City to host Tomato Fair at Los Pinos Cultural Complex
The 2026 Tomato Fair will take place this weekend, September 19 and 20, at the Complejo Cultural Los Pinos in Mexico City. Organized by the Complejo Cultural Los Pinos and the Mexican Secretariat of Culture, the event focuses on the importance of the tomato in Mexican gastronomy, the conservation of heirloom seeds, and national agricultural diversity.
The program includes workshops on sauce making, seed extraction, and tomato dehydration, alongside discussions regarding transgenic crops, nutritional value, and food sovereignty. Educational activities such as exhibitions on phenological phases and working groups on seed guardianship and environmental resilience will also be held.
Visitors can participate in tastings and purchase various products. Food offerings include smoked tomato ceviche, tlacoyos, and ribs with tomato, while markets will feature preserves, jams, seeds, and vegetables. The event serves as a space for exchange between urban farmers, producers, and traditional cooks.
