Mexico City transit disrupted by metro closures and protest blockades

On Sunday 10 May 2026, Mexico City’s Metro experienced widespread service interruptions. Lines 2, 3, 7 and 8 reported delays, with stations such as Auditorio (Line 7), San Antonio Abad, Portales and Nativitas (Line 2) closed for remodeling. The system limited Line 2 to two partial circuits and advised passengers to allow door closures and exit at terminal stations.

Two days later, on Tuesday 12 May 2026, a series of marches across the capital caused major road closures. Demonstrators blocked the Supervía Poniente at Las Torres, Avenida República de Cuba near Callejón Héroes del 57, and other arteries, while a trailer carrying 28 tonnes of milk ruptured on Calzada Ignacio Zaragoza, creating severe traffic congestion toward the México‑Puebla highway. Protesters from the IPN also rallied in Zacatenco demanding labor rights.

Both events prompted authorities to issue travel advisories, recommend alternative routes, and encourage the use of public transport where possible.
