Mexico City women and Millennials lead mental health emergency calls

Women and Millennials represent the highest proportion of emergency 9-1-1 calls related to mental health in Mexico City, according to data from the Command, Control, Computing, Communications and Citizen Contact Center (C5).

In 2026, the C5 has recorded 47,095 calls involving family violence affecting mental health, suicide attempts, or nervous crises. Women account for 61.6 percent of these reports, while the Millennial generation makes up 25 percent of the calls. Data indicates a higher incidence during weekends, with one in three reports occurring between Saturday and Sunday, and 25 percent of calls arriving between 18:00 and 21:00.

Salvador Guerrero Chiprés, General Coordinator of the C5, noted a 10 percentage point decrease in calls from Generation Z (ages 16 to 29) compared to the previous year. This decline is attributed to the availability of mental health support tools and programs, such as 'Vida Plena, Corazón Contento,' an initiative led by Head of Government Clara Brugada that has reportedly supported over one million people in schools.
