Mexico City’s Feria Internacional de la Torta Sets Guinness Record

The Feria Internacional de la Torta in Mexico City assembled a 100‑meter long, 1.5‑ton sandwich made with more than fifty varieties of fillings, earning a Guinness World Record as the largest sliced sandwich. The preparation involved dozens of bakers working in protective gear, and the record was confirmed by judge Alfredo Arista in the presence of mayor Evelyn Parra.

In the town of Tehuacán, the 32nd Carrera de la Tortilla featured about 700 women, from children to adults, who ran a five‑kilometre route carrying baskets of handmade tortillas on their backs. The event, highlighted by Letty Carreño Abarca of the municipal DIF, celebrated the region’s maize heritage and the role of women in preserving culinary traditions.
