Mexico closes 12 ports due to Tropical Storm Isaías
Mexico's Secretariat of the Navy (Semar) has closed 12 ports to small vessels across the states of Tamaulipas, Veracruz, Tabasco, and Campeche due to the approach of Tropical Storm Isaías.
The storm, located approximately 395 km east-northeast of Cabo Rojo, Veracruz, is producing maximum sustained winds of 75 km/h and gusts up to 95 km/h. The National Meteorological Service warns of intense rainfall in Veracruz, Tabasco, Campeche, and Yucatán, along with very strong rains in Tamaulipas.
In Campeche, the community of Isla Arena has seen over 400 fishermen suspend their activities to avoid maritime accidents. In Progreso, fishing activities for octopus, lobster, and grouper have also been halted as vessels seek refuge in Yucalpetén. The National Hurricane Center predicts Isaías could rapidly strengthen into a hurricane by Thursday.
