Mexico coach Aguirre complains about schedule shift for World Cup match vs England
Mexico head coach Javier Aguirre expressed strong displeasure after FIFA moved the Round‑of‑16 match against England from its original 18:00 kickoff to noon at the Estadio Ciudad de México. Aguirre described the change as “a kick in the stomach,” saying it forces a complete overhaul of his team’s preparation, including meals, rest, physiotherapy and travel plans.
He also confirmed that two Mexican players are “touched” ahead of the game: defender Gilberto Mora, who is dealing with a left‑knee issue, and midfielder Roberto Alvarado, who suffered a strain in his left thigh. While both are expected to miss the starting lineup, Aguirre said medical staff are working to have them ready for the later time the match was originally scheduled for.
